Our Hearts, His Home Advent Devotional

Hi friend!

What does your heart need in this season? Rest from the wear and tear of daily life? Hope for circumstances that weigh you down? Joy in the journey as you celebrate what God has given you? Peace in situations you cannot control?

All those things — everything your heart needs and more — are found in Jesus.

Every year seems to pass more quickly, and before I know it, the Advent Season is here. Suddenly, stores are decked in Christmas decor, holiday catalogs fill my mailbox, and radio stations play It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year. Just the other day, I was driving down Main Street in my quaint little town, and I noticed Christmas wreaths on the light posts! Ready or not, Christmas is on its way.

Soon, there will be gifts to purchase and trees to decorate, cookies to bake, and holiday concerts to attend. We’ll spend our time addressing Christmas cards, attending holiday gatherings, and trimming our home with Christmas cheer.

Over the years, I’ve learned that if I don’t take care of my heart FIRST at Christmas, I lose the joy and meaning that defines the Christmas season. If I’m not intentional, instead of delighting in the powerful message Advent brings, I check off lists and wind up exhausted and empty.

I wrote these Advent devotionals for you and me — for hearts that desire to seek Jesus first in this season. I pray they lead your heart and mine to the joy and meaning it is longing for this Christmas season and the whole year through.
