Dearly Loved Child of God

He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him.  But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1: 12-13

All the children I know have something in common: they want to grow up as quickly as possible. As a child, it seems like grownups get to do all the best things: drive, eat whatever they please, and not go to school — the list goes on. To children, being an adult looks like it’s full of benefits.

Of course, we adults know better. The responsibilities that come with adulthood are often heavy and complex. Children take for granted the care provided by loving adults and the freedom of less responsibility. The truth is, whether a child or adult, humans were not created to live life on their own.

The most flourishing lives are lived in a relationship with God, recognizing our dependence on Him.

In the same way children need their earthly parents to guide and care for them, we rely on our Heavenly Father for our every need.

God is our protection, our refuge in times of trouble. (Psalm 46:1)

God provides for our every need. (Philippians 4:19)

Nothing can separate us from God’s love. (Romans 8:38-39)

God, your Heavenly Father, wants to care for you. He desires to help you navigate the heartaches and struggles of this life. He wants to join in your joy and celebration. He wants to guide and direct you to a life of purpose.

God, our Heavenly Father, gave us Jesus. While we were separated from Him because of our sins, He sent His Son from heaven — a baby in a manger — creating a way for us to live in an unbroken relationship with Him.

Child of God, you are dearly loved.

Heavenly Father, I need you as my protection and strength. Your love for me guides me and directs me through life’s darkness. Thank you for being my Heavenly Father, providing all my needs through your Son, Jesus. Amen.
